Tanker and commercial fleet advisory

A ship is a working asset with a survey schedule, a regulatory clock and a charter market that can turn in a quarter. We advise owners and investors on when to buy, what to buy, how to employ it and when to let it go.

What we advise on

Steel, surveys and the charter market

  • Acquisition and sale

Second-hand and newbuild purchases: inspection and condition, price against the market, and the contract terms that matter after delivery.

  • Fleet strategy

Fleet mix, age profile and renewal timing, set against the charter market and the regulatory changes ahead.

  • Chartering strategy

Time charter, voyage and pool employment compared, with counterparty and market risk weighed.

  • Regulatory and carbon exposure

What carbon intensity ratings, emissions trading and fuel rules mean for a vessel's earnings and resale value.

  • Lifecycle decisions

Special surveys, dry dockings and upgrades, and the point at which a vessel should be sold, converted or recycled.

  • Specialist and offshore vessels

Support, construction and specialist tonnage, where the market is thinner and each asset more particular.

Before you commit

The questions that decide value

A ship's price tells you less than its paperwork. These are the questions that decide what a vessel can earn and who will employ it.

  • When are the next special survey and dry docking due, and what will they cost?
  • How does the vessel rate under the carbon intensity rules, and what would improve it?
  • Will the major charterers and terminals accept the vessel at its age and with its history?
  • What does its ownership, flag and trading history show, including any sanctions exposure?
  • How does the price compare with recent sales of similar tonnage?
  • What do the class records, port state inspections and vetting reports reveal about how it has been run?
